Science has shown that an hour of sleep before midnight is worth nearly 2 hours after midnight in regard to muscle and tissue regeneration and feeling more energized. The body is on a system where it wants to sleep at certain times, and rebuilding of the brain and muscular systems occur before midnight. I am a college student as well, but I started going to bed before midnight and for every hour before midnight I went to sleep, I was able to wake up nearly 2 hours earlier. If I can make it to bed by 10pm, I have no problem getting up at 4 or 5AM. If I go to sleep around midnight or 1AM, I still feel groggy in the morning at 8AM. I can't guarantee it will work for you, but it's definitely worth a try. It has made a huge difference in my time spent sleeping, as well as my energy levels throughout the day.

Nice article. I used to sleep 14 hours a day (result of severe lethargy from poor diet and malnutrition) and have cut down my hours to 6. I have found that 3 hours is the bare minimum I need in order to get up, 9 hours and anything more is just too much and I'm a lazy slug for the rest of the day, and 6 hours (perfectly in the middle of 3 and 9) is just the right amount of sleep hours I need every night in order to be able to have enough energy for the rest of the day and at the same time feel sleepy at night. I usually go to bed around 2AM, and wakeup at 8PM. This routine allows me to go out everynight without having to break or alter the pattern. When I wakeup around 8AM, the first thing I do is make an English breakfast (eggs, sausage, toast w/ cheese, milk), and then immediately get out of the house and ride my bicycle to the gym. After I workout for an hour, I have energy and strenght to go do anything for the rest of the day. I also take an hour nap around 4PM allowing me the remain fresh for the evening. BTW, I use my iPod as an alarm and have a subwoofer and speakers surrounding my bed, so when 7:55AM strikes, my bed is literally shaking. Great way to start the daily morning party ay!
