This is were things get confusing for me. In the one hand I always want more, better and improve hence self improvement. But I've been reading and listening about Buddism and they teach that craving is the root of unhappiness, that been grateful and appreciate the things that you have is all that matters. So in your situation I think that you need to take a good look inside and feel if that hole that your feeling is the product of actual unhappiness or a by product of something in you head telling you that you should always strive for more.
And I think you should wait but go after something that will is way out of your comfort zone but always felt that you wanted to do it.
