I was brought up in a religious household, taught by my parents and my church what was right and wrong- and to that I did not question. Although I may have recently strayed from many of the specific beliefs of the church; the core values and morals that the institution have instilled in me have become a major part of who I am- such as honesty, integrity, etc.
These values and morals that I hold so dear are major contributing factors that influence my decision making process. When I was a narrow minded child, unaware of the consequences, both good and bad, of the 'real' world because thankfully I wasn't living in it yet, decisions were very simple to make- because I could typically predict the outcome.
Do my homework -> Get a good grade
Lie to my friend -> Lose a friend
Stay up late -> Get in trouble
Not eat my food -> Hear the starving kids in africa speech
It was very cut and dry, and very easy to determine the probable effect from the cause if I cared to think about it. But as life goes on, as we gain more and more responsibility, the decisions don't stay so... simple.
As we grow older where the decisions we make have the opportunity to take us down radically different paths we can often find ourselves wondering what we should do...
Whether it be a question of morality and the WAY we live our lives or whether it be a question of something else- the answers aren't always black and white.
Life isn't easy and the decisions we find ourselves making aren't either. The key to being able to make those decisions is first to figure out who you are, and what you stand for. Many people in this world are as fickle as the wind regarding their beliefs- they let anyone and everyone decide for them not even truely knowing what they believe and why. I know because I used to be one of those people, my beliefs would change with whoever I was hanging out with and it was just about as often as a teen celebrity going in and out of rehab.
You will never be a leader
You will never be able to make the tough decision in life with confidence
You will never be your own person
if you don't figure out what you believe in and what you stand for.
Those choices in life where we have to choose between two shades of gray can be pretty fucking difficult if you have no character foundation.
Go take some time out of your day and sit under a tree for a couple hours, maybe you will gain some clairty
