Default I want to start a band

So I've been playing guitar since the summer before high school (roughly two and a half years). I'm not as good as I would have expected myself to be by now... I know a good number of songs (well it's actually not really that many), but I only know one song completely all the way through ("Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd). Most of the other songs I "know," I know parts of but don't know well enough to play them for other people. I've written a song (well I wrote most of the lyrics, gave input about how I thought the chords should go, and then sang it in front of about 200 people).

Anyway, I really want to start playing music with other people because that could motivate me enough to be better. I'm going to try to start a band, despite my lack of free time. That means I need to find a) People who can work around my schedule that is full of AP, BBYO, procrastination, unwillingness to leave my house, and my lack of a license (yet); and b) People I can actually stand.... Because there are a lot of people who live around here that I just can't stand.

I'll be sure to keep everyone here updated on how it goes.

What is AP, BBYO?

I have heard of BYOB, bring you own beer, but these abreviations are killing me.

Trust me now as I say this, you made a list of things people will need to work around, you need to work on those first if you expect others to do so.

Procrastination, you cant expect other to count on you if you cant count on yourself to do things on time or wait until last minute to get things done.
Unwillingness to leave my house...why? Whats in your house that you dont want to leave, or whats outside that you dont want to go out?

Good luck with everything though, if you eventually start recording tracks and what not, give us a listen.

lol - the most depressing song ever

Do you have those lyrics still?

And also, if you're going to try and do this put yourself in it full force. You said you would actually schedule around procrastination - my friend the busier you are the less you can procrastinate and the more efficient you become! Don't try and make room for it! Push it out for good!

And I'm sure there's at least a few BBYO guys who play varied instruments so that could probably be a good start. The summer lineup would probably not work the best though...hah

Ok and for definitions:
BBYO: A Jewish youth group that me and Sloan are both currently in, though in total different parts of the country. Bob was also in it back in his high school heyday.
AP: Advanced Placements courses

I was being slightly sarcastic with all of that. AP classes for me are a joke, despite how others may struggle. BBYO doesn't really take up as much of my life as I'd think it would. I leave the house for things that matter to me. I don't have my license yet, but I'm working on it.

As for the times I don't want to leave my house, I just never really need to. Everything I need is at my computer.

I just need to find some friends who will actually want to do this.

Well... if you WANT to start a bad and you NEED friends to do this, then go LOOK for them. My friend told me how he started his band. Of course, at first he thought that he could convince his friends into playing with him and he would teach them. Well... that didn't work well. It wasn't until he started going to these castings, and events where young amateurs played where he actually got to meet/network! with people who shared his passion and interest for music, and maybe... even a start a band.

It's quite simple, if you want to find band members, you go where they can be found. And I tell ya... that place is not your room or garage. Go the events where you can find them.

You can also do a casting call on craigslist, I have heard of some people doing that, just be careful about who inquires with you. Ask for like a mysoace/facebook, add them, have them write on your wall and such just so you know they are who they tell you they are.

I thought I made a post a few minutes ago, but I guess I didn't hit submit...
Anyway I found a bassist and a keyboardist (which could be fun to have, although depending on what direction we decide to go with [I'm pretty much up for anything], he might not be needed).

And I'd rather try to do this with people I already know for something that could be fun. When I'm ready to get more serious (probably around the time I get in college), I'll go out looking for people.

UPDATE: I have just gotten a bassist and a lead guitarist. I found a drummer, but he told me that he wants to jam with me to see if it sounds good. So hopefully he'll stay on with us.
