Question What Would You Do If You Could Start Again?

You're dead.

You wake up again not knowing who you are, but you do remember you had a pretty shit past. What would you do differently if you could start life again from this very moment?

Turning A New Leaf

Occassionally in the past some guys on this forum have asked 'how do [they] make friends in a new country?' and I never felt comfortable to answer because I hadn't had experience with this. And I suppose that leaving friends and family behind, heading to a new country you essentially don't have an identity. You can start from scratch - so with our Self-Improvement knowledge, what would you do?

Imagine For Fun

I potentially could be in this situation. Right now, I could decide to live in Adelaide, Australia for the next 6 months. No friends (near my age), no job, no hobbies, no material possessions, not much money, hardly any clothes and no girl. Talking to my Aunt we discussed what I'd do to start from scratch. These are my priorities and how I'd start again. Feel free to answer in a similar fashion or use your own craaaaazy style. It's a free world after all.

1. Make Friends

My main priority would be to make friends ASAP. To do this, I'd cycle to the University and approach students there as they're my age and I've done this before in Perth. I'd also sign up to groups that are based around growing passions such as photography, and mountain biking. I would initially go out to bars and clubs with what people I know, and then try to make friends there.

2. Create Money

To pay for the bicycle, group fees, clubbing, booze and transport I'd need money. Savings dwindle quickly so I'd set up a website design business very quickly using an Uncles laptop and start creating some. I already know of three people who want one so that'd be relatively easy.

3. Exercise

If there's one thing about Australia I love the most, it's that so much can be done outside. England is cold, wet and foggy. Here though, you can walk outside in shorts all year round! I'd cycle through the quarries, run along the countless rivers and lakes everyday, join a gym and even buy protein shakes which are relatively cheap here. I want to be a beefcake, right now I lack the discipline. Australian football would have to be tried out, so I would join a team and get practising - make friends too.

4. Family

I do have quite a few family members here, and I'd spend much more time with them. BBQs, dinners, partying or even just hanging out at their houses can be awesome. So if I could start again I would really make an effort to connect them all together so we have a strong unit. This would be a base to fall back upon, to relax and have fun.

5. Study

I would want to be a man of great interesting knowledge. I'd read books all the time, and my reading speed would be much quicker than it is now - say 180 words per minute? Speed reading style. Specialised knowledge in website design would be crucial, but so would religions, society and the arts so that I can really connect with as many as possible. Life is too short to be naive.

6. Explore the environment

I love it when I meet people who know their home town like the back of their hand. I would want to explore every street, alley, shop, forest, river, cave and quarry so that when someone is visiting I can take them to the coolest places.

7. Girls

After making good friends, earning money (enabling independence), becoming very fit and healthy, creating tight connections with family (developing interdependence), gaining wide and deep knowledge and realising the local geography, then I would start looking for a relationship.

Ooo This Actually Sounds Quite Nice

After reading this again, it's made me actually want to stay here. Too bad. The Great Barrier Reef calls for me!

Sounds like one hell of a plan!
By the way, so much of these things are made a hell of a lot easier simply because you are a forigner in another land. Everyone will love you.

Starting a new live sounds like it would be cool.

Here is a scenario I think of sometimes: What would you do if you woke up as yourself 10 years ago, with all of you memories from now?

I'd totally invest in stocks that I know will do well in the "future". I'd be the youngest millionaire in history. I'd also undo all of the mistakes I made in high school (And do the shit I wish I had done).

1. Make friends
2. Maintain physical fitness
3. Learn a skill that is unique and attractive (Maybe as many world languages as possible. Unique but at the same time not unique, in my opinion. But very useful and attractive)
4. Find my own secular spirituality in nature.
5. Get a girl.

What's to stop me from doing any of this right now? The perception that I don't have time (About to read your post on that, so let's see where that takes me!)
