Default Dressing a bit nicer for school

A few minutes ago, I decided that I'm going to try to start dressing a bit nicer for school to see what kinds of responses I get. However, I've come to realize that since I have lost a little bit of weight over the summer, most of my nicer shirts and all of my new shorts are just a little bit too big for me. This means that one of these days I will need to go clothes shopping. This is a perfect opportunity to reinvent my look. Instead of cargo/bermuda shorts (or jeans) and a t-shirt with the occasional hoodie, I'm going to start dressing just a little bit nicer.

I am not quite sure yet what that will exactly entail, but for tomorrow, I'm looking at wearing these really comfortable khaki shorts I have (that I've had for a few months and had not tired on until now. I took off and threw away the tags before I tried them with my belt. The belt works wonders), and I'm looking for a shirt to wear with it.

Edit: Doing khaki shorts, a long-sleeved striped shirt (going to roll up/push back the sleeves), white undershirt, with sneakers because the only other shoes I have would be way overdressing. and these sneakers aren't too bad and actually go well with the shirt.

Find nicer shoes, start from the bottom down. Sneakers are trashy.

Not really sure what kind of shoes would be good but not be too overdressed for going to school. Please give me suggestions. I'll go shopping for new clothes within the next few weeks , whenever I can catch a break.
Today, I felt like I got a lot more positive attention. People smiled at me a lot, and someone actually directly complimented me on my choice of shirt.

Edit: Picture is up:
Even though my shirt is on in that picture, can you tell if I look thinner than in this picture? I don't think it's much thinner, but I have lost about 10 pounds. By November, I want to not be embarrassed to take off my shirt. I don't need to be bulging with muscles (at least not for this goal), but I want to be thin.

nice man, only thing is shift looks like it might be a tiny bit too long. When you go shopping next, make sure everything you get is FITTED! Don't get xl shit that'll be too big for you, girls don't like baggy stuff. It'll also encourage you not to put weight back on.
Lol, nice toilet too.

Tomorrow: Sandals (they're not too nice, but they look better than sneakers. I'll add nicer sandals to the list), khakis + belt, and a Neiman Marcus shirt that I guess you would call a boxed design. The shirt and the undershirt are a little bit long.
My mom bought me some smaller polos (the old ones were too long and too big)

thanks. I love that shirt.
it's like checkerboard but really really small squares. I'd take a picture but that would only make me more distracted and keep me from getting to bed. it looks great though.
Tomorrow: baby blue polo and I don't really know what else yet.

Hey man its good that you choose to dress a little smarter. I always say you cant be over-dressed for something. If you feel silly because your over-dressed but know that it looks good then you can turn that isecurity into confidence because you know everyone has seen you and your social proof is UP!

Here is an example of some of the smart casual things I wear smart casual.

And here is an example of the attention it brings me. These girls all just came up to me and asked me for a photo with them. I had never met them, this is just the way it is in the Phillippines.

Just make sure you remember the basics.
Your glasses, watch, shoes, belt and socks should match or play with each other.

Wear stripe shirts with plain pants, or stripped pants with a plain shirt.
Dark colours hide your weight, Fitted is the way forward but a little baggy isn't so bad. Too baggy and you looks stupid. Use white to clash. For example dark shorts/shirt with a white belt and white shoes.

Keep us posted!

You can find decent shoes (might be knock offs but still look good) for like $20 at lots of places. I have polo type shoes that get me attention when I wear them with nice jeans and a dress shirt. Not too fancy and actually a cheap outfit but looks good and gets lots of compliments. Keep up the good work, bro.

I haven't done it in a while. My nicer clothes either aren't good for the cold or I don't want to ruin at school. Instead of spending my little money on new clothes, I'm going to wait for warmer weather and pick up again then.

I've also gotten to the point in that I don't need to dress more nicely to make myself feel confident. I was doing it to boost some confidence, and now it's there on its own. I'm still planning on dressing nicer again because it looks better.

I think perhaps, you've mixed up things like trendy and formal. Dont dress formal at school, thats silly, school is a casual environment. (Thank god i had to wear uniforms) However, you can still hit trendy without looking out of place. Your clothing choices are outdated, watch some recent fashion shows, or some fashion websites from the past 2 years, especially this seasons line. Just a thought.

Sloan, what college do you go to? and what are you wearing for the cold? I'm graduating this year and am trying to dress nicer as well. First thing I'm doing is trying to phase out all of my hooded sweatshirts and replace them with things like sweaters, blazers and just more presentable jackets. Not sure if that helps, but you should definitely see what you can do despite the weather :-)
