Thumbs up 2010 New Year's Resolutions - Everyone active should post here

This is a must of a thread. Its why we're all here. Please at least post a couple goals so you have somewhere to check back to at the end of next year (but hopefully earlier :-D).

If you guys need any help, here are some standard goal categories, also you have everyone else on the forum to help you out. Feel free to poach goals off others, nothing wrong with using others ideas to motivate you ;-)

Here are mine, organized by category...

Health and Fitness

- Seen Burn Notice? My girlfriend and I noticed that my physique is very, very similar to the main character's. My goal for 2010 is to add a little mass (not too much, I'm a soccer player and need to keep up my speed) and tone similar to whatever the main character's name is lol.
- Also, need to get back into cardio shape to dominate my last college season of soccer (club team). I'm planning on finding a semi pro team to join after graduation.

Family and Relationships

- Continue to support my sister in whatever she does. Recently been helping her with her college applications and essays and goal for the year is to simply continue to be the best big brother I can.
- Also want to support both my parents over the next year from wherever I am in the world as I'm quite certain they're going to get divorced in the next year.
- I would also like to work on my social skills a bit. I'm already quite social but I would really like to build a reputation as being THE guy to hang out with. I have a girlfriend so my focus, at least for the time being, is becoming the best wingman I can for my roommate, brothers (the ones that are worth my time at least) and friends.

Time Management and Organization

- Not sure what to put here. I've realized that there is enough time in the day to get almost everything I want done and still have time to smoke a bowl and play video games with friends in the evenings. I'd like to continue such time management and make sure to find time to read at least a chapter a day of various books in addition to many other things.

Personal Finance

- Start out by getting over $1000 in my bank account and keeping it there. Want to increase this number to $10,000 by the end of the year.

Career Goals

- 5 different ways to make $1000 a month. I currently have poker and two different businesses that I'm working towards this goal.
- Create and develop a new site similar to this one that will be up and running in January when I move into my new room (I'll post about that when I get there)

Education and Training

- Graduate from college in June with a degree in Philosophy and Economics.
- Continue my own education of everything I already do: social dynamics, internet marketing, business, poker, etc, etc.
Personal Growth and Interest

Recreation and Leisure

- Kick back each and every day. What's the point of working my ass off if I can't sit back and enjoy it?

Home Improvement and Real Estate

- Move to Argentina after graduating. Hopefully I'll have enough money to make a down payment on my first property (for investment purposes) that I can rent out to pay the mortgage.

The categories were taken from Goals & Goal-Setting: Setting Goals at myGoals.com. Its a service that helps individuals reach their goals and is very, very good from what I've seen. It does cost something like $5 a month so I've put off using it but I plan to soon and will report my results.

This post was a bit rushed because my family is about to leave to celebrate New Years. I'll put some more stuff if I think of it up later.

Happy New Years Everyone!

Kumar

Make sure to make a wish tonight: it's a blue moon, and the next new years eve blue moon won't be for 19 more years.

Resolution for me:
Become cleaner

I've realized my 'goal' is not a goal in any tangible terms, (thanks to Steve Pavlina) though that is exactly what I want, but merely an excuse for a delay in action.

Tangible goal: To stick to my routine for 3 months minimum. To give 2 seminars within the year on a topic yet to be disclosed. Put in enough hours on my new guitar to be able to be in a band. Make 20,000$ at least. Gain 10-15lbs of muscle. Become very flexible, enough to do the splits. Save enough money to go to a pranic healing seminar. Move out of my place. Continue to be smoke free.

Familial - Spend more time with my grandparents, they dont have long left.
Physical - Fitness up, strength up. Done, want more though.

Special goal - at 8.30pm on April 5th, be the best me I can be. And record what im doing at the time.

Here are a few:

-Beat my last semesters GPA (It was a 3.6).
-Be more selective about what kind of girl I get in a serious relationship with (the last one was probably a bad idea to begin with).
-Break this lifting plateau I am stuck on.
-Save enough money to pay for a student exchange to Denmark.

Congrats for posting your goals here, guys, and I really mean that. Getting them out on paper is the first step to making them come true. Lets help each other get there!

The last thing I wanted to say in this thread is my biggest goal of the year and maybe it should be for you guys as well. Here it is.

My biggest goal for 2010 is to set and reach my goals on both a weekly and monthly basis.

I've already started doing this and it makes all the big goals so much easier to achieve. Just food for thought. I'll be making a monthly goal post for January soon if anyone is interested.

I plan on having a New Year's REVOLUTION: Improving myself in all aspects of my life and not stopping until I am happy. I'll write up a bigger post soon, probably this afternoon/evening.

  • Find a job or keep the job that will hopefully be on the way.
  • Get the lead role in my school play Othello
  • Buy a car
  • Go to acting classes and really loose myself in classes
  • Have a good time on the play Vagina Monologues that I'll be acting in.
  • Keep smoking that weed
  • Start Meditating
  • Run for 30 min a day
  • Pass all my classes with a least a B
  • Befriend more people.
  • Party way more
  • Keep exploring myself
  • Find a nice girl to start a relationship

These are just a few but the main ones really have to do with acting, employment, and relationships.

My Goal... well, I wrote this down a couple of weeks ago, and I've been writing it over and over, burning it into the inside of my skull.
I commit to the path to mastery, to long term success, to taking control over my life. I am ready to take my level of success to the level of mastery. I admit that I do not want to do all that is required to reach mastery. I have come to grips with that.
I accept that there will be a lot of things that will be physically, emotionally and psychologically uncomfortable, or even painful along the path to mastery. I do them anyway.
I make a personal commitment to do whatever it takes to reach my objectives, no matter how much I don't want to do them in the moment.
At times it may seem I'm getting nowhere. This is when I remind myself that I am still learning.
At times it may seem I'm overwhelmed, there's too much to do, and I feel lost.
These are the times when I am most vulnarable. These are the times that I want to run away. These are the times when I doubt my actions, my abilities, my values, my internal frame of reference and it will become very easy to fall back onto old habbits, secome to the power of the external frame of reference.
These are the times when I focus. I focus on my long term goals. I repeat them out loud. I centre myself physically, emotionally and psychologically. I do what I need to do and go where I need to go.
I move through the transition anxiety, the pain and the doubt and commit to the path to mastery.
I visualize myself achieving my objectives for 2010:
- Master of Science Education and Communication in Physics Education
- I teach in a fun, interesting way, have a tight administration and am ruthless in time-management.
- I have a bigger, stronger social network of close family, friends and colleagues.
- I surf at least once a month
- I have my 1st kuy in Aikido
- I play guitar for at least 30 minutes a day.
- Every last weekend of the month, I have a dreamday/-weekend. For that purpose I plan a trip.
- I use recess to travel, with or without friends.
