Cleopatra; the real PUA
William Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra offers an insight into the best female PUA known to man.
For those that are not aware of this play, very briefly, it is about a Roman General (Antony) who has fallen for the Egyptian ageing queen, Cleopatra. Antony loves the Egyptian goddess, as a AFC does with one-itis.
The Romans look down upon his actions, espicially his ruler-in part Ceasar.
In this post, i'm just gonna go through Act one Scene one of this play, and show how Cleopatra is a masterful manipulator in her actions, and consequently (although not characteristically) a PUA and how Antony fails time and again to see the shit tests, resulting in his status becoming that of an AFC.
Cleopatra (C) enters the stage with Antony (A)
C: If it be love indeed, tell me how much.
This is a shit test to boost Cleopatra's ego, perhaps showing a low inner confidence. Antony has 2 options, he doesn't love her much, or he does - a lot.
A: There's beggary in the love that can be reckoned
C:I'll set a bourn how far to be beloved
A: Then must thou needs find out new heaven, new earth.
This hyperbolic language emphasises Antony's intentions of attempting to woe his target by illustrating his compassion for her. Yet to the audience, or us, or perhaps another HB on looking, this shows Antony DLV'ing to C.
Following an interuption from a messenger, Antony DLV by investing into Cleopatra by ordering the messenger to be brief.
If we relate this to present days, an example would be a text. You get a text on your phone when with a girl. If you don't read it, you're intentions are clear to the target, she's important to you. If you read it, then the target is disposable. Your life is more important.
Cleopatra throws a shit test
C: fulvia (Antony's ex-wife) perchance is angry; or who knows
if the scarce-bearded Caesar have not sent
his powerful mandate to you
She goes on to mock A (negging him) by impersonating Caesar giving Antony orders. Imagine in high skl (college to us British) where a girl would perhaps impersonate your parent, "do this, do that, do the other"...taking the micky by saying you suck their balls.
Antony's response is typical of a AFC, he's worried, he's upset his precious woman, and he wants to know why
A: how, my love?
Cleopatra throws a larger shit test, by asking Antony of where his values lie - to his ruler in Rome - Caesar, or herself
C: Your dismission is come from Caesar
This is a deep shit test because it shows C find Caesar to have the higher value. If antony obeys the command then he admits to having the lesser value, and yet if he does not, then he DLV to Cleopatra by admitting his value lies with her.
C: As I am Egypt's Queen,
Thou blushest Antony, and that blood of thine
is Caesar's homager; else so thy cheek pays shame
when shrill-tongued fulvia scolds. The Messengers!
A: Let Rome in Tiber melt, and the wide arch
of the ranged empire fall! Here is my space.
Antony then attempts to justify himself to that of the same level of Cleopatra by implying they are mutuals:
A: when such a mutual pair...the world to weet
we stand up peerless.
Cleopatra does not fall for this attempt to DLV herself
C: Excellent falsehood!
...I'll seem the fool i am not. Antony
will be himself.
This again throws another double edged shit test, which the only solution is to win the greatest benefit for the short-term. In this case, compliance,
A: But stirred by Cleopatra
Antony' lack of vision into the future is seen by his compulsion to fufil his present desire's of Egypt:
A: Let's not confound the time with conference harsh.
There's not a minute of our lives should stretch
WIthout some pleasure now. What sport tonight?
Although what Antony says is true, we shouldn't waste time with the infedilities of the mundane conversations that fufil our lives,
As Urma Thurman explains in Pulp Fiction,
"don't you hate that? Uncomftable silences. Why do you find the need to yack about bullshit, to be comftable?"
It's exactly that, we have conversation to make the other person feel comftable. Secretly, no1 gives 2 fucks as to what is said, it's just that something is said. AntiSlutDefence. Antony somewhat DHV here by accusing C of wasting time with "conference harsh".
A PUA has options. A PUA would have conversation to invest into the future. The short term loss of action reeps greater yields in the long run. Antony fails to see that here. He gives Cleopatra all the compliments she wants so that he can have some sexy time that night. However in the Long Run, this wouldn't work as she would get bored.
Invest into a soul-mate moment with a girl. Instead of stroking that leg, perhaps try a question game, where you ask eachother anything. This may very easily trangress into a DMC, which builds comfort and trust MASSIVELY. As long as you control the conversation, and you don't let it slip to LJBF's zone at the end, the benefit out weighs the benefit from stroking of the leg.
Take a step back, ask yourself, would I like to have sex with this girl once tonight, or 10 times over the next month?
Depending on your lack of action, it should be the latter. So don't give in, don't pay her those compliments just yet. DHV by inviting her into your life. Don't try to invite yourself into hers.
