Lightbulb Challenge me and yourself, give me your best words of wisdom and see if they hold up

Who doesn't like to be the guy who throws out the cool phrases of wisdom that sometimes rhyme and always leave you feeling good that you just got to use it to help someone. I loved to be that guy.

It's Bullshit

Now I like to have a little bit more original thought to them because it actually means something then. So give me your best lines of wisdom that you use and I will do my best to tell you if it is true (in my opinion) or simply a persuasive subtle limiting belief that simply promotes staying 'stuck' and compromising our growth. The enoemous problem with these is that we simply accept them and do not challenge them and in turn we base our lives on these pieces of golden shit.

I know you guys have them, lay it on me- just one per reply please though guys

For example,
"What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger."

Its mainly bullshit and I hope you guys can see why

I will never forget this actually; me and my friend were in a neighboring town (I was in my early teens) and standing outside a strip club so when the older men opened the doors we could see inside and sneak a peek (what can I say I was a horny young lad)...

Anyway this guy comes strolling out and comes up to me and my friend and lays this one on, "If you ain't got the cream, then it's all a dream"...

Take it as you will, however to this day I still hold my life true to those words and will never stop pushing towards my goals because of that...

From my understanding of the line which I have never heard before and might have interpreted differently then you.

It is great to have goals in your lifetime but it is MUCH MORE important to not live in the future in pursuit of them. You can never be truely happy if you judge your happiness in life on some future 'cream' that may or may not come. Live in the present, it is all we have- always. However, being in the present you are able to plan for the future but it should never be something that you are looking for to complete yourself. You are one hundred percent complete and perfect now, but there is also one hundred percent room to grow in the future.

I was more concerned with phrases that have to deal with the intangible things in life but given the mere fact that you stated one about money gives me the impression, on top of knowing a little bit about you, that money is very important to you. I would reccomend looking at my previous answer first off and second off be open to the possibility that there are no rules but the rules we choose to follow which aren't even rules in the first place but rather choices we make in our lives to live the way we want. We are not governed by anything other then ourselves. And just for fun, nobody owns ALL the money therefore nobody makes the rules even if there were some. You want to know what REALLY makes the rules in your life? Your genius ego and its desire to protect itself and control, but once it loses its hold of you there are no rules.

Interesting thread! Here are two quotes I hold very dear to me. And one I don't, lets see how good you are (shouldn't be too hard).

"While everyone is standing there thinking about it, I'm already out there taking action"
"Don't worry, at least you tried."
"Life is sacred, that is to say, it is the supreme value, to which all other values are subordinate. "

"The decisions I made in my life led me to where I am today. Make decisions, damn it"
I wrote this somewhere around in this post: http://pualifestyle.com/forum/showth...-now-2976.html

Next quote: "Nick is the man"

#1 is quite irrelevant to the topic and does not really give any life insight at first glance but the thing that bothers me is why is thinking about things so looked down upon in this statement? I know plenty of idiots who talk and act before they think and are still idiots who take action and yet I know plenty of intelligent amazing people who use every word and every action as part of their life strategy whatever it may be, pleasing God, creating world peace, etc. I would much rather be a thinker then an acter without thinking. I'm guessing the statement might imply that you would think before you act and you probably percieve it as such but I don't think everyone, particularly the lemmings of the world, would take it as such unfortunately which could be dangerous.
#2 is great in the beginning. Don't worry. Never worry, I believe that everything happens for a reason and fate is an amazing thing especially once you are able to see more of the big picture and see how connected everything in your life is and the beauty of seemingly unfortunate events that unfold to create masterpieces later on in life.
#3 is too much for me to even think about right now and since I only said one per thread i'm not going to even really think about it much hehe

These are not the type of quotes I had in mind when starting this though look at my example guys.

"What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger"
Shit like that...

I'm slightly confused, make decisions or what? We are always making decisions whether we know it or not. Do you mean make conscious decisions that promote self growth and empowerment of yourself and others? If so then I would disagree with the statement just to play devils advocate although agreeing with the principle- do you really want to give advice to people or would you rather have them make their own decisions? Not everyone is in the right place in life to look for self-improvement and with us telling them that they need to do this and do that and make these conscious decisions when in reality they think they just want to fuck bitches and bust a cap in someones ass then maybe they need to do that in order to realize that they don't want to, which I'm assuming they don't. I don't think that people can skip the rungs in the ladder of life very easily and that they need to do what they really want when they want to do it and be able to have the courage to do so, whatever that may be to move to the next one. (I hope you guys realize what I just said is also a limiting belief but was the best way of explaining it I could think of at 3am) And I hope that if they are able to be truely honest with themselves then they will possibly realize that they don't want to fuck bitches and bust a cap in someones ass but rather love and be loved. If you really care about what happens to someone then I would reccomend being open to the possibility of not giving them advice. Consider the mantra which I follow a lot of my life by- If you have to ask... I hope you guys understand that because it loses its power when explained

'Live everyday like its your last' hahaha, have fun ripping that one to shreds :P

One that I like to think of is this.. It might not be true but it puts a smile on my face..

'Somewhere theres someone who dreams of your smile, and finds in your prescense that life is worthwhile, so when you are lonely remember its true, somebody somewhere is thining of you'

If you have to ask... I hope you guys understand that because it loses its power when explained

Well, clearly.. if we wanted it explained thatd be us asking immediately negating the power of the quote

First off I would like to clarify that I don't want this to be some thread where people throw obscure shit at me just to see if I can find a limiting belief in it but rather to tell me something that you follow your life by and are curious to see another persons insight in. Stuff along this line provides no stimulating thought and is pretty much just something you say to your buddies whether you follow it or not. And whether I am right or wrong with my insights does not matter, the fact that you will think about something that has been running your life even in the smallest way without thinking much about it is what is important. So with that said... These two quotes do not seem like words of wisdom to me but rather words that are humorous and will keep you out of jail and out of having to pay for child support. And anyways, I prefer to play on a field without grass if you know what I mean. Thanks for the quotes LINK but its just not exactly what I was looking for, maybe I should have explained it better if I didn't.

I'm not exactly sure how this is a word of wisdom per say but rather just an observation of your life. Can you explain more please if you think it is?

Thats just retarded and promoting the plague of neediness that is sweeping up all the would be men in this world. Sounds like the lines of an emo song about a child with issues regarding his father. If your lonely, be lonely and embrace it fully and then move the fuck on. You can't cure loneliness with someone else. People are so damn afraid of being bored in this life that they will do anything in their power to not be alone or in stillness/silence. NEXT!

EDIT: HAHA i guess I didn't read your reply thoroughly enough to see that what I thought wasn't a 'word of wisdom' really wasn't after all but what you said was just a clarification for your next one. haha, my bad- didn't see the lack of quotations, I blame it on 3am

this is a super interesting thread, so ill have a crack..

my two most favourite and applicable:

'never get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life'

'the harder i worked, the luckier i became'

these two may see contradictory to each other - but the first is in relation to me more now (or at least the past 2 years), and the second was more in relation to my sporting days (not school or business)....

I would first off like to say that although my criticism of your quote nicholas I actually really liked it- lol

I like this one, kind of, and I find it interesting that typically when we find ourselves in one of these situations where someone would tell us this it is most likely because we have placed priority on our career over our family or soemthing along those lines. And the interesting thing is that typically its not that we don't have to 'make a life' and be with the ones we care about but to drop the old one, the illusion of a happy life spending long hours in the office. It's not really something I find very limiting at all but rather just a statement of redirection. And on second thought, I really don't like the word 'make' a living. Just live, just be. You don't have to 'make' anything.
