Question Brain Washing Children (Jesus Camp)

Jesus Camp is a 2006 documentary directed by Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing about a Pentecostal/charismatic summer camp for children who spend their summers learning and practicing their "prophetic gifts" and being taught that they can "take back America for Christ."[1] According to the distributor, it "doesn't come with any prepackaged point of view" and tries to be "an honest and impartial depiction of one faction of the evangelical Christian community”. [2]

Bill Maher and panel discussing Jesus Camp

You can watch the whole documentary on youtube. I personally find this film very disturbing since they are brain washing the kids. The discussion pretty much sums everything I was thinking during the film ( except for what the women was saying).

I want to know what you think?

AND

What you think about the discussion?

THIS IS a discussion people so play nice.

Hah even before watching "YouTube - Bill Maher on Jesus Camp" I thought to myself. "Are they trying to mimic jihad but the christian version of it?" Then when I watched the second video they made that point. Why do people use religion to justify violence and why does it make people to think that killing another person/father/friend/lover can be justified by religion or God? I think God should be an entity that allows differences, that brings people together not separate them. I mean imagine this scenario "Jihad is the belief that accepting other peoples believes will guarantee God's happiness towards who you are instead of killing yourself and other people to gain his favor. Or Christianity that crazy woman says "I will do anything God tells me, I will respect other people for their differences not our similarities. And God tells me that I should love other human beings, because God created us so we can have a taste of an imperfect world, a world that is diverse a world that makes you appreciate."" Now in these scenarios don't you think it would be better for everyone? Well the sad part is that the better is not what people necessarily want, but this is another question not relevant to this topic.

I find it ridiculous and inappropriate to do this with children.

Cool

First off, kudos Tonatiuh8 on your immortal technique quote... im a big fan... as far as this whole brain washing bit.. its sad but a reality that I've seen my self, as my dad is a pastor and I had to seperate myself from all the brain washing that goes on in a lot of those types of radical religous churches. Its craziness.

Being spiritual in any way is your own walk, i believe there is a god, I respect his powers, and occasionally pray, but would never go as far as trying to make some one else believe my way is right and yours is wrong, to each their own.

These types of brain washing seminars, if you would, tap into your emotional circuit. They make you go into deep states of sadness and emptiness by telling these children that they are bad and that what they are doing is wrong, and they get them to feel low. Think about it, how bad can a 9 or 10 year old kid really be. This exact principle is applied to adults and many fall into these states rather easily as social proof from other followers in the church casues them to let go and give in. It's sad really watching a 30 some year old man crying like a 5 year old child, I use to have to hold back chuckles and laughter else I be reprimanded by one of the elders. (lol)

As far as religion in general, when ever asked I always sum it up to: .... It's like there is a box in front of all of us, and inside is the so called "truth" but no one really knows whats inside. It could be this or it could be that. One side says its a balloon, the other says its a rock, the other says it whatever, but in the end NO one can say right or wrong because no one will ever know. I digress.
