Alain de Botton: A kinder, gentler philosophy of success
One of the best TEDtalks I've seen so far. And something that really began turning my thoughts around was the fact that he argued that we cannot be successful at everything. This point is very true. And I want to throw out an idea here that has been flowing around, do you think that we are successful in some aspect of our lives because we decide not to be successful in others? Is this random?. An example could be a basketball player wanting to be successful at dancing. He believes that if he can keep up with his sister at salsa dancing he would be successful. So he practice, but misses basketball practice to get better at dancing. Now he is able to keep up with his sister, but know he feels he is unsuccessful in basketball because he misses half of all his free throws. This is a simple example. Hope you get the idea.
